Indian Watchdog Alleges State Lottery Mismanagement

India’s watchdog for state finances, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), has criticised the Kerala state lottery for mismanaging hundreds of millions of rupees in charity funds.

A CAG report on revenue, tabled in the state assembly of Kerala, detailed gross mismanagement of state lottery finances. The report alleged multiple undetected fake lottery tickets and financial irregularities relating to the lottery-backed Karunya Benevolent Fund (KBF).

The fund is designed to provide financial assistance for hospital treatments for the poor.
