In a move surprising even for Illinois politics, a state senator added language to legalize internet gambling and fantasy sports to a totally unrelated bill in the final hours of the last day of the legislative session, and the Senate voted 42-10 to pass the newly amended bill.
Although the legislation still must pass the House by a three-fifths margin, Illinois suddenly has emerged out of the blue as a rival to Pennsylvania in the race to join New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada among states regulating online wagering.
