Illinois Appears To Have A Budget Deal, Is Gambling Expansion Next?

The state of Illinois has not passed a fiscal budget in almost three years, leaving the issues of daily fantasy sports (DFS), casino expansion and sports betting on the sidelines.

The gambling industry has seen legislation be introduced only to fail countless times in the wake of ongoing budget talks. Legislators have regularly passed over bills designed to expand gaming and generate revenue saying Illinois must pass a budget first.

Recently, House Bill 479 that would legalize internet gambling and DFS was shelved after more pressing issues were placed ahead of Democratic Representative Mike Zalewski’s legislation.
