The German state of Hesse is touting a potential 10 percent increase in funding for sports, education and youth causes as online sports betting launches next year.
Landessportbund Hessen, the local sports federation, should get an additional €2m in funding over its current €20.1m funding level, according to interior minister Peter Beuth.
Hesse pays about €34.8m in total every year to beneficiaries of the Hessian Gambling Act, according to the state.
Beuth also reiterated the state's plans to develop its own gambling regime if other German states do not move away from a system that it considers too restrictive.
Hesse has called for permitting online casino and minimal restrictions on in-play betting.
