GVC Boss Backs Blanket Ban On Sports Gambling Adverts

The head of the UK’s biggest gambling firm last night called for a complete ban on betting adverts during TV sports broadcasts and pledged his firm would cancel team shirt and ground sponsorship deals.

Kenny Alexander, chief executive of GVC Holdings, which owns the Ladbrokes, Coral, Sportingbet and Bwin brands, said he wanted a round-the-clock ban on advertising that applies to all sports apart from horseracing.

He also said that Ladbrokes would be cancelling all its shirt sponsorship deals so football fans could watch teams without seeing incentives to bet. The firm will also stop advertising on boards at the perimeter of football pitches.
