Citing concerns over problem gambling and skepticism about projected revenues, Maine Governor Janet Mills vetoed legislation that would have established legalized sports betting in the state on Friday.
Mills, a Democrat, had until Friday night to decide whether to allow Senate Bill 553 to become law with or without her signature or to veto the bill, after holding the bill last summer.
