Georgia, Alabama Set For 2017 Gambling Expansion Spotlight

With casinos now legal in 41 states, lawmakers in Georgia and Alabama are seriously considering abandoning their long-held opposition to casino gambling in next year’s legislative sessions to close budget shortfalls in healthcare and education programs.

Efforts to expand gambling in the U.S. were largely ineffective in 2016 as the fantasy sports industry controlled the spotlight, successfully lobbying eight states to legalize the real-money games.

The largest opportunity for gaming expansion this year was in Pennsylvania, where legislators decided to include $100m in gambling reforms in July as part of the budget process.
