Gambling Websites Top Target For Cyberattacks, Sparks Concern Over GDPR

On the eve of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force, a study has found that gambling websites are the top target for ransomware hackers, as operators face the herculean task of securing databases to avoid paying hefty fines.

Cyber-threat research conducted by international firm NTT Security found a 350 percent increase in ransomware attacks last year, with one-third of them directed at gambling companies, especially poker, casinos and sports-betting websites in Europe, the Middle East and Asia (EMEA).
