The UK Gambling Commission will later today take the first tentative steps towards a ban on credit card gambling and tougher gaming machine controls.
Through two new calls for evidence that open this morning the commission will set in motion two separate tracks of regulatory change.
The most high profile is a potential ban on online gambling using credit cards.
The change has been on the cards since at least May last year, when the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) published its gaming machine and responsible gambling consultation response, which confirmed a massive cut to fixed-odds betting terminal (FOBT) stakes.
