Furious Gaming Tribes Blast Senator’s Resistance On Labor Bill

The reluctance of the leading Democrat on the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs to support the top legislative priority of tribal casinos is infuriating Indian gaming lobbyists who say they may retaliate by increasing campaign donations to the Republican Party.

Democratic Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico has told Indian casino lobbyists he will vote against the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act (TLSA) even though he supported the bill when it passed the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs in February 2017, sources said. 

“If Udall does not vote for this bill and we lose, Indian Country will have no choice but to reconsider its long-standing support for the Democratic Party,” said a tribal gaming lobbyist who requested anonymity.
