Foxwoods Philadelphia Story Faces Potent Urban Opposition

Foxwoods now faces a years-long delay in its drive to build a casino in Philadelphia amid intense neighborhood opposition and mounting difficulties nailing down a development site.The giant Connecticut casino recently asked state gambling regulators for as much as two more years to open a major gambling venue in Philadelphia. The request comes with the previous deadline for Foxwoods to open its proposed downtown casino having come and gone last week.

Foxwoods unveiled plans to build a major urban gambling Mecca in Pennsylvania’s largest city nearly four years ago. But the tribal operator has met with one setback after another, with its pursuit of a Philadelphia casino triggering intense opposition from city residents and others.
