Fortuna Results Show Scale Of Tax Burdens In Poland And Slovakia

Central and Eastern European betting specialist Fortuna Entertainment grew gross win by 56 percent year-on-year to €483.6m in 2018, but had to pay €141.4m or 29 percent of this total in betting duties due to challenging turnover taxes in Poland and Slovakia.

The Dutch-headquartered operator, which has been privately owned since delisting from the Prague and Warsaw stock exchanges last summer, revealed in its 2018 annual report that post-tax net revenue climbed 59 percent to €335.2m on the back of 56 percent growth in gross win to €483.6m.

Headline growth was flattered by a first full year’s contribution from Hattrick Sports Group and Fortbet Romania, results from which were fully consolidated from May 20 and September 1 respectively in 2017.
