Football Clubs Fear 'Seismic' Damage If Sport Forced To Break Gambling Ties

Football clubs believe that attempts to sever the close ties between betting and the professional game represent a damaging "seismic shift" for the sport and one to which even fans might object.

With a UK whistle-to-whistle advertising ban due to come into effect before the start of the next European football season and the Labour Party’s desire to ban all gambling shirt sponsorships, the relationship between the gambling industry and professional football is currently in flux.

However, betting companies still remain tightly interwoven with professional football.
