Finnish Gambling Advert Ban Hits Media Pockets

Ahead of Finland’s strict ban on publicising foreign gambling websites later this year, the country’s local media are already feeling the pressure as advertising revenue from global gaming giants dries up.The country’s gambling reforms, which will come into effect on October 1, seek to clampdown on unlicensed gambling operators by tightening the law on gambling adverts and make it a criminal offence to run the advertising of foreign gaming companies.

Finnish poker magazine Pokerisivut will print its final edition this week, and its managing editor specifically blamed the government’s “awful” gambling law for sucking away foreign gambling business.
