EU Ombudsman Backs Commission On Case Closure

The European Ombudsman has rejected complaints about the European Commission’s handling of gambling infringement cases, with Brussels showing no signs of deviating from its non-interventionist stance on national gambling laws.

According to a decision published last week by European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, the European Commission displayed “clear reasoning” when it decided to cease investigating whether member states’ gambling laws were consistent with EU free trade laws, and no further examination of its decisions are warranted.
