EU Backs New Mobile App To Fight Match-Fixing

A new smartphone app is being rolled out to athletes around Europe to encourage them to alert authorities to match-fixing threats.

The “Red Button” app will cover five popular sports in seven countries and builds on software already available to many professional footballers. It aims to launch in August of this year.

Following a meeting between international sports authorities held earlier this month in Helsinki, the app will be made available to athletes participating in: professional rugby in France, Ireland and the UK; basketball in Italy; futsal in Spain; handball in Denmark; and volleyball in Greece.
