Gambling may become a goldmine in the digital age, but professional sports leagues in the United States are lagging in the race to take advantage of the opportunity, according to two prominent entrepreneurs who are team owners in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL).
“For the most part, the leagues want to keep things the way they are, and the world has changed so dramatically,” former AOL executive Ted Leonsis told students and sports executives attending last week’s MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston.
