A leading member of Ecuador’s Constitutional Assembly has indicated the Assembly’s intention to remove the Junta de Beneficiencia de Guayaquil institution’s 150-year monopoly on lottery games in the South American country.The charitable institution, based in Ecuador’s largest city of Guayaquil, has funded local health programs through the sale of lottery games since the year 1862. Some thirty years later the Junta extended its coverage throughout the country when it began operating lottery games through Ecuador’s National Lottery (Lotería Nacional), a dependency of Junta created in 1894.
