Earthquake Shatters Chilean Casino Revenues

The earthquake that struck Chile in February also decimated revenues across the country’s newly-expanded casino sector, Chilean regulators have confirmed.Gross casino revenues fell 43.6 percent during March as a result the tragic earthquake that hit south and central Chile on February 27, according to new figures released by the country’s casino gaming superintendence (Superintendencia de Casinos del Juego, or SCJ).

The country’s 15 new casinos opened under a 2005 expanded gambling law saw gross win of US$11.9m during the month, the SCJ said, down from a total of US$21m before the devastating earthquake in February.
