Dutch online gambling legislation, if it ever takes effect, could be the strictest in the world on fighting gambling addiction, according to a regulator and a former regulator.
The Dutch online gambling bill, which was originally scheduled for 2015 implementation but now set for 2021, has been so involved, "we may ultimately end up having the world's strictest addiction prevention policies", said Rene Jansen, chairman of the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA).
Written into law are mandates including a requirement to map out how operators are working to prevent gambling addiction with additional protections for 18 to 25 year-olds, a mandate to show how addiction prevention is embedded in organisational culture and proof of employee training, Jansen said.
