DFS In Texas Will Have To Wait Until 2019, Lawmaker Says

With the 2017 legislative session in Texas recently completed, lawmakers in Austin once again failed to approve daily fantasy sports (DFS) legislation, as two bills died in committee shortly after being introduced.

In March, Republican Senator Lois Kolkhorst filed Senate Bill 1970, which proposed to tax and regulate DFS.

“There must be clarity as to whether or not fantasy sports are legal in Texas,” Kolkhorst told GamblingCompliance. “We must protect our liberties and rights, and that includes our ability to play a game of skill that millions of Texans already enjoy.”

Less than a month later, Kolkhorst’s bill stalled in the Senate Affairs Committee.
