D.C. Sports-Betting Bill Favoring Lottery-Controlled Market Clears Major Hurdle

The Washington DC Council has resisted lobbying efforts by gaming interests and sports leagues and voted down an amendment to sports-betting legislation that would create a competitive sports-betting market in the district rather than one dominated by the DC Lottery.

The bill cleared another hurdle Tuesday as the first reading of the bill was approved by council. The bill is expected to be on the agenda for a second and final reading on December 18, and council members say more changes could be introduced to the bill in the coming weeks.
