DC Sports-Betting Bill Clears Major Hurdle

A plan to steer control of mobile sports betting in the District of Columbia to DC Lottery vendor Intralot narrowly cleared one of its biggest remaining hurdles Tuesday.

The D.C. Council voted 7-6 to approve a bill that would allow the district’s chief financial officer to negotiate a new lottery technology contract with Intralot outside of the district’s standard procurement process.

The bill would need to be approved a second time at a council meeting later this month before being sent to Mayor Muriel Bowser for her signature, which is expected.
