DC Council Tables Intralot's No-Bid Sports-Betting Contract

An effort to quickly steer Washington, D.C. sports betting into the hands of its current lottery provider Intralot without a competitive bidding process failed to get out of the starting blocks Tuesday.

DC Council chairman Phil Mendelson withdrew an emergency bill that he introduced on behalf of chief financial officer Jeffrey DeWitt that would have allowed the district to waive its standard procurement process.

Instead, the DC Lottery would simply negotiate a new contract with the Athens, Greece-based provider.

If the measure were to have been approved, the council still would have had to approve the lottery’s negotiated contract, which would have extended the vendor’s existing pact and added sports betting.
