Negotiations over comprehensive gaming reforms in Florida collapsed on Friday night after lawmakers failed to reach a consensus over the scope of gambling expansion.
“Despite the good faith efforts of both the House and Senate, a gaming bill will not pass the legislature this session,” read a statement issued late Friday by Senate president Joe Negron and House speaker Richard Corcoran, both Republicans.
The statement came less than 48 hours after Florida’s legislative leaders convened a conference committee to reconcile the differences between two separate gaming bills passed by their respective chambers.
