Conservative Leadership Hopeful Hancock Backs Mandatory Levy

The UK’s secretary of state for health and social care has become the first member of government, and Conservative Party leadership candidate, to voice support for the introduction of a mandatory responsible gambling levy.

Matt Hancock MP declared his support for the introduction of a 1 percent compulsory levy on gambling operator profits during the launch of his leadership bid on Monday.

“The betting industry has not taken this issue seriously enough and has failed to take enough responsibility for addressing the harm gambling causes,” said Hancock.
