Colombia’s gaming authority is studying ways to block payments for unlicensed gambling websites to bolster a crackdown on offshore operators, according to a senior Coljuegos official.
Colombia has already started a project to block illegal gambling websites, but authorities are encountering “technical difficulties” in bringing ISP-blocking into full effect, Luis Alfredo Gomez, Coljuegos’ vice president of operations, said on Tuesday.
The gambling agency has now begun discussions with financial institutions about blocking the payment methods used by offshore sites targeting Colombian players.
“We are going to concentrate on that,” said Gomez. “That will help us to be a lot more effective in this fight.”
