Chinese Lottery Revenue Close To Recovery

  • Lotto games enjoy a 22 percent year-on-year May increase
  • Other segments heavily down, but sports betting shows life 

Lotto products continue to roar back in China after a pandemic-triggered industry shutdown, with lotto sales in May doubling their year-on-year growth from April and driving overall lottery sales to within 18 percent of last Mays marker.

Although overall lottery sales were down 17.7 percent year-on-year to 29.22bn yuan ($4.14bn) in May, sales of lotto games in the Welfare and Sports Lottery modes jumped 22 percent year-on-year to 23.22bn yuan, the Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday.
