Nevada’s gaming industry is divided on whether next year’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court will slash the state’s market share of sports betting or preserve the state’s monopoly.
Among those shrugging their shoulders about the upcoming decision is Jay Kornegay, who manages the largest sports book in Las Vegas at the Westgate Resort and Casino.
“I don’t think any of us are holding our breath,” Kornegay told GamblingCompliance during a recent interview in his office at the Westgate.
A vast array of entertainment options, of which sports betting is only one, will continue to attract visitors to Las Vegas, according to Kornegay.
“People don’t have to fly to Vegas just to make bets,” Kornegay said. “They do that in their local corner, often by illegal means.”
