The UK’s advertising watchdog has banned a Casumo advert and warned the operator to ensure that it is targeting its adverts responsibly after one of its promotions appeared under a search term associated with self-exclusion.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint regarding the now-banned advert after someone who Google searched the term “how to unsubscribe from all gambling” was shown a promotion for Casumo headed “Welcome Bonus to New Players Casumo 100% and 20 Free Spins”.
Casumo’s advert was seen in May 2019.
The ASA deemed that the advert was not responsibly targeted as the search phrase under which it appeared was likely to be used by vulnerable consumers looking to either self-exclude or block forms of gambling advertising.
