Cambodia Looks East To Spur Casino Revival

A new $100m casino is to open on Cambodia’s border with Vietnam tomorrow as the country looks to boost tourism through casino resorts, despite the lingering effects of a downturn created by the global economic slump.

The four-star, eight-story Titan King Resort and Casino in the south eastern city of Bavet, a kilometre from the Vietnamese border, is now ready to open after delays caused by faltering credit markets worldwide.

Still, the new resort is emblematic of the government’s hopes to use resort casinos as a tourist magnet and economic tool to develop Cambodia’s infrastructure and muscle in on Asia’s VIP gaming market.
