An appeals court ruling that an online bingo site operated by a California tribe was not protected by federal Indian gaming law may further delay the rollout of online gambling in the country’s most populated state and carry consequences for sports-betting policy as well.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in August affirmed a lower court’s decision that the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel tribe cannot offer online bingo games to players in California from servers on its lands, according to an 18-page ruling.
