A California Senate panel voted last week to restore funding to a controversial team of state gambling commission slot machine inspectors who have angered Indian casinos by bringing what they describe as unwarranted scrutiny to their operations. The move paves the way for another battle over internal control standards in August.The state gambling commission insisted random slot inspections are a critical component to a much broader regulatory effort that they are attempting to develop, and their request to reinstate funding to the eight member team received a strong endorsement from the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office.
