Brazilian Bingo Group Cautions Against Casino-Only Approach

Brazilian gaming interests are cautiously optimistic that gambling legislation will move forward in Congress before the end of the year, but warn that any narrower proposal limited to Las Vegas-style casino-resorts would be doomed to fail.

Brazil’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies are both considering bills to regulate a wide range of gambling activities including casinos, bingo halls, online betting and "jogo do bicho" numbers games, and the head of one association representing Brazilian gaming interests expects lawmakers to stick with that plan rather than change course and limit expansion strictly to integrated resorts, as some casino groups have advocated.
