A last-ditch effort to give Louisiana voters the decision to legalize sports betting fell short as the state’s legislative session concluded Thursday.
The hopes of sports-betting supporters in the state appeared to be dashed last week when legislation that would trigger a parish-by-parish voter referendum in November was voted down in a House committee after clearing the Senate.
