Belgium’s gambling regulator is facing an increasingly difficult battle to keep unlicensed operators out of its gambling market, even as online revenues surpass land-based gambling for the first time.
Online gambling accounted for 50.9 percent of the country’s gross gaming revenue in 2018, compared with 46.5 percent in 2017 and 41.5 percent in 2016, according to the Belgian Gaming Commission’s (BGC) 2019 annual report, published on Wednesday.
Total gross gaming revenue (GGR) in 2018 was just over €917.2m, compared with €798.3m in 2017.
