Belgium’s gambling regulator wants politicians to discuss more restrictive gambling advertising regulations and even a potential ban after a damning report revealed that during Belgium’s major football competition in 2019, gambling ads were ubiquitous.
The Belgian Gaming Commission report titled “Gambling advertising in the football play-offs and the effect on gambling activity” is the first time the regulator has conducted a qualitative analysis of the presence of gambling advertising in sport.
“In every medium that can be linked to the football events and the surrounding experience, football supporters were confronted on a large scale with gambling advertising. Young people are also frequently confronted with gambling advertising,” according to the gaming commission.
