The government in Victoria has followed its counterparts in New South Wales by proposing to prohibit internet gaming firms from offering free bets to new customers, despite recent industry protests that such restrictions threaten to drive players to unregulated, offshore sites. The Victoria state government is to follow New South Wales (NSW) and South Australia in banning online gaming companies from offering free-bet promotions in the wake of a broad relaxation of gambling advertising rules in Australia last year, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun.
