Argentina Approves New National Slots Tax

Defying protests from gambling workers, Argentina’s Congress has voted to introduce a new federal tax on all bets placed online or via electronic gaming machines in the country’s casinos, bingo halls and slot parlors.

Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies quickly followed the country’s Senate on Thursday in approving the new wagering taxes as part of a broader tax reform package.

The move comes as a blow to Argentine gambling interests which had been pushing back against the prospect of a new layer of federal taxation for the past several weeks.
