Analysts Play Down Atlantic City’s Seasonal Cheer

While this week's news of an increase in December gaming revenues in beleaguered Atlantic City may appear to represent a Christmas miracle, analysts believe the market’s first growth since August 2008 can be explained by a very favourable prior year comparable.

According to data released that the New Jersey Casino Control Commission released on Tuesday, Atlantic City’s 11 casinos halted a sequence of 39 consecutive monthly contractions by generating revenues up 4.2 percent year-on-year to $246.5m in December.
