At a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) workshop on video game loot boxes, a mix of academic researchers and industry advocates implored game companies to take a more active role in examining the link between loot boxes and problem gambling.
The FTC held the day-long workshop on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., after receiving a variety of complaints about the mechanics of paid loot boxes, including their similar characteristics to gambling.
