Spanish charity lottery ONCE grew instant lottery sales by 31.6 percent year-on-year to €622m in 2018, driven by a €149.5m contribution from two new €10 instant win games that carry jackpots of €1m, in the face of criticism from the local industry press.
ONCE, the Spanish National Organisation for the Blind, grew overall sales turnover by 8.5 percent to €2.16bn in 2018, with instant lotteries accounting for €622m or 28.8 percent of this total, up from a penetration of 15 percent as recently as 2014.
The charity institute, which is the smaller half of a state lottery duopoly alongside Sociedad Estatal Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE), holds the sole right to sell scratch cards and online instant lottery games at a national level in Spain.
